OPEN POSITION – Development Assistant
Non-Exempt, 20 hrs./week

Reports to: Development Manager
Pay Scale: $17.00/hour

The Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley (WCSV) is a nonprofit organization that since 1993 has been committed to providing the highest quality care and rehabilitation for urban wildlife and to promoting a mutually beneficial and respectful co-existence between humans and wildlife in our communities.

This position assists the Development Manager in fundraising for and growing our organization. It involves working on various fundraising tasks and projects, including assisting with grant research and writing, building relationships with donors, running fundraiser campaigns, data entry and other clerical tasks. It also includes managing our social media accounts, including writing posts and responding to messages.

The ideal candidate will be a “can do” self-starter who has the ability to work well with our Development Manager and administrative staff, connect with stakeholders such as donors and grantors, and think and write creatively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, and CRM database management systems (Salesforce) is a plus.

  • Various responsibilities related to special events, including a silent and live auction
    • Marketing and PR for events
    • Assisting on the day of each event to ensure they run smoothly and successfully
    • Soliciting donations for auction items
    • Coordinating outside vendors for events
  • Assisting the Development Manager in various event-related and general development duties such as the creation of appeal letters and researching new grants to apply for
  • Writing content and assisting in the design of development and outreach materials, including fundraising appeals, crowdfunding programs, informational brochures and flyers
  • Working with confidential donor information, queries, and reports in the donor database
  • As a member of the administrative team, assist with answering phones and animal intake

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university, or two to five years of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps and database management systems
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop and InDesign) preferred
  • Previous working experience managing social media for an employer.
  • An appreciation for wildlife and dedication to animal protection and wildlife advocacy
  • High ethical standards, sound judgment and comfortable working with confidential information pertaining to donor development
  • Courteous, personable, and tactful while dealing with members of the public and employees of the Center
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities
  • Experience working with database management systems
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
  • Ability to perform duties both under general supervision and independently
  • Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner or under deadline
  • Upon hire, must pass a background check
  • Must have a valid California Driver License with a clean driving record to be insured by our insurance

OPEN POSITION – Administrative Assistant

The Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley (WCSV) is a small 501(c)3 grassroots, non-profit organization in its 28th year of serving all residents and wildlife of Santa Clara County. Our mission is to provide sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife with exceptional free high-quality care, rehabilitation, and opportunity for release. We also aim to educate the public about coexisting peacefully with local wildlife.

This Administrative Assistant position requires a high level of detail, keen accuracy, organization, and follow-through, and is central to the daily operations of the Center.  This position is in a highly visible role focusing on front desk administration and animal admissions, including answering phone calls, conducting animal intakes, and updating and maintaining patient records.  The position will include assisting in coordinating fundraising and volunteer events and general operations at the Center.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is a quick learner and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps and database management systems.

  • Engage the public: answer phones, receive visitors, intake of sick, orphaned or injured animals and assistance with relevant paperwork, questions and in-kind donations
  • Provide administrative support to WCSV leadership team and animal care staff
  • Database and paperwork management: entering, organizing, reporting and filing data on animals, volunteers, and donations
  • Support donor development
  • Assist with social media and web site support
